Higher levels survive damage but make the code denser. A logo raises it to the highest level automatically.

Empty space around the code, in modules. Scanners need at least 4 for reliable reading.

Every kind of code

How to make a WhatsApp QR code

  1. Choose the country, then type the WhatsApp number you want customers to message.
  2. Type the message the chat starts with, such as “I would like to order” or “I would like to book”.
  3. Design it in your colours with your logo, and add a frame such as “Message us on WhatsApp”.
  4. Download it, and scan it with your phone before printing to check the chat opens with your number.

What happens when it is scanned

The customer scans the code with their phone's camera, and a WhatsApp chat with you opens with your message already typed. They change it if they like and tap “Send”, and it reaches you like any message. It works on iPhone and Android with no extra app.

So the chat starts with what you need to know, and the customer never has to save or type your number.

Where it is used

  • On the table or at the till: “Order on WhatsApp”.
  • On the shopfront while it is closed: “Write to us and we will answer”.
  • On the delivery car, the business card and the receipt.
  • On a property sign or a printed advert, so anyone interested reaches you directly.
  • In a clinic or a salon, to book the next appointment.
  • On an invitation, so a guest can confirm.
  • On a home business's products, so a customer can order again with one message.

A message that makes answering easier

  • Short, and saying why they are writing: “I would like to book a table” or “What does it cost?”.
  • Use a number somebody actually answers; the shop's number is better than your own.
  • With more than one code, name each one's place in its message: “From the roadside sign” or “From the catalogue”, and you know where each message came from.
  • Write next to the code what it does, such as “Scan to order on WhatsApp”. People scan when they know where it leads.

Static or editable

The code from this page is static, free and needs no account, but if the number or the message changes you print a new code.

Kept in your account it becomes editable: change the number or the message after printing, see how often it was scanned, and put the branch or listing in its message. The free plan keeps 3 codes editable, for good. The difference in detail

Questions about a WhatsApp QR code

Does it work with WhatsApp Business?

Yes. The code opens a chat with the number, whether it is on WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business.

Does the customer see my number?

Yes, as in any WhatsApp chat. Use the shop's number, not your own.

Is the message sent by itself?

No. It is filled into their message box, and they can change it before sending it themselves.

And if the customer's phone has no WhatsApp?

The link opens WhatsApp's page in the browser, which offers to download the app.

Is this the WhatsApp Web QR code?

No. You scan the WhatsApp Web code with your phone to open WhatsApp on a computer. This one you print, so people can open a chat with you.

Is a WhatsApp QR code free?

Yes. The static code from this page is free, with no account, and never expires. An editable one lives in a free account, which keeps 3 codes editable, for good.
