MECARD QR code
- No account
- No watermark
- Never expires
Every kind of code
How it works
- Type a first name, a last name, or both. That is all that is required.
- Add only what you need: phone, e-mail, website and address.
- Add a short note if you like, such as “Freelance designer” or “Air conditioning repairs”. It is saved with the contact.
- Download the code, and scan it with your phone and another one before printing.
MECARD or vCard?
Both save a contact from the code's own pattern, with no internet, and both are fixed once printed. They differ in size and in fields.
- MECARD is shorter, so its pattern is simpler and it prints smaller or scans from further away.
- But it has fewer fields: no job title and no company name. It has a note field instead.
- A vCard is more widely supported. Most cameras read MECARD, but vCard is safer if you do not know which phones will scan it.
Choose MECARD for a small sticker or a badge with a name and a number. Choose vCard when you need a job title and a company.
What people see when they scan it
They see your name and number, and the e-mail and note if you wrote them, and tap to save. No app, no internet, and the scan does not pass through us.
Where it is used
- A small sticker on an appliance or an air conditioner: the service number saved in one scan.
- A name badge at an event or a workshop.
- A key tag or a luggage label.
- The label of a handmade product, with the maker's name and number, so the customer can order again.
- A small corner of a business card when space is tight.
Before you print
- Every field you fill in goes into the pattern. A name and a number alone give you the smallest code possible.
- Use the note for something that reminds people who you are months later, such as “Air conditioning, call mornings”: a name alone may not be enough.
- Write your name as you want it to appear in people's contacts: it is what they will search for later.
- Work out the size for the distance it will be scanned from, and do not print it smaller.
- Open it in the QR code scanner to see exactly what it holds before you print.
Fixed once printed
This code is always static, never expires, and scans offline. If your number changes, you print a new code.
Want a contact you can change after printing, with a photo and links? Choose a business card. The free plan keeps 3 codes editable, for good.
Questions about a MECARD QR code
What is MECARD?
A compact format for storing a contact in a QR code: name, phone, e-mail, website, address and a note, with shorter labels than vCard.
Can every phone read it?
Most recent phone cameras read it. Test it on the phones you expect people to use before printing, and if in doubt choose a vCard.
Where do I put my job title?
MECARD has no field for it. Write it in the note, or choose a vCard, which has a field for the title and another for the company.
Does the person scanning need an internet connection?
No. The details are in the pattern, and the phone reads and saves them offline.
Can I change the details after printing?
No. It is always static, so you print a new code.
