Advanced

Higher levels survive damage but make the code denser. A logo raises it to the highest level automatically.

Empty space around the code, in modules. Scanners need at least 4 for reliable reading.

Every kind of code

How to design a QR code

  1. Type the link or the content above, or choose another kind from the cards.
  2. Start from a ready template if you like, then change what you want.
  3. Choose the colours, shapes, logo and frame in the sections of “Design”. Every choice shows in the preview at once.
  4. Scan the preview with your phone, then download the code as PNG, SVG or PDF.

Colours

One colour for the dots and one for the background, a gradient between two colours, or a transparent background to set it on your own design. The three corner eyes can have their own colours too.

The one rule: dark dots on a light background. If the contrast is low we warn you before you download, since many cameras cannot read a faint or inverted code.

Shapes

Square, rounded, dotted, flowing, diamond, star or line dots, and many shapes for the corner eyes: square, round, leaf, cushion. You see each one as it will print.

Upload your logo or pick a ready icon such as WhatsApp, Instagram or Wi-Fi, and set its size. We clear a space in the middle and arrange the code around it so it keeps scanning.

The frame and its words

A frame with words that ask for a scan, such as “Scan for the menu” or “Follow us”, picked or typed, in shapes and colours for different occasions. Changing the frame never touches the code itself.

So that it still scans

  • Leave a clear margin around it, and do not set it on a busy picture.
  • The shorter the link, the fewer and larger the dots, and the further away it can be scanned.
  • Print it at a size that suits the distance: the size calculator gives the smallest width that scans.
  • Download the test sheet, print it and scan it before you print the whole run.

One design for all your codes

The code from this page is free, with no account and no watermark. In your account you save your design as a template for every new code, so all your codes match. The free plan keeps 3 codes editable, for good.

Questions about QR code design

Can a phone read a coloured code, or one with a logo?

Yes, as long as the dots are dark on a light background, with strong contrast between them. With a logo, a space is cleared for it in the middle and error correction is raised, so the code still reads.

Can the background be dark and the dots light?

No: many cameras cannot read an inverted code, so the page does not accept one, nor two colours too close together.

Is the design free?

Yes. Every colour, shape, logo and frame is free on this page, with no account and no watermark.

Which format do I send to the printer?

SVG or PDF: they scale up without losing sharpness. PNG is for screens and posts.

Can I save my design and use it for all my codes?

Yes, in your account: save the design as a template and make it the default design for every new code in your organization.
