Every kind of code
How to make a song QR code
There are two ways, depending on where the song is:
- A song on a music platform or YouTube: copy its link from “Share” and paste it on link to QR code. Free, no account needed.
- A recording you have, such as a message in your voice or a song you may share: upload it as the “Audio” kind, which comes with the Grow plan and those above it.
Uploading your recording, step by step
- In your account, choose “Audio”.
- Upload the file as MP3 or M4A, up to 10 MB. If it is stored somewhere else, paste its direct link instead.
- Give it a title, such as “For your birthday”, and, if you like, a cover picture and a few words shown under the player.
- Design the code in your colours, then download it and print it on the card or the box.
Where it is used
- A birthday present: a song or a greeting in the family's voices, on the card.
- A wedding invitation, or a thank-you card after the party.
- A voice message in a gift box or with a bunch of flowers.
- A spoken welcome at the shop's door or in a guest room.
- An audio guide next to a piece at an exhibition.
- A podcast episode or a recorded lesson, on a poster or in a booklet.
What people hear when they scan it
A page opens with your title, the cover picture and an audio player, with your words under it. They listen in their phone's browser, with no app and no account.
Before you upload
- The iPhone's Voice Memos app saves M4A, which you upload as it is. A WhatsApp voice note is in another format: record with an app that saves MP3 or M4A.
- If you upload a song, you are responsible for the right to share it. For an artist's song on a platform, a link code is simpler.
- Anybody who scans the code or is given its link can listen. Do not upload what you do not want people to hear.
Printing the code
Download PNG to print at home, or SVG and PDF for a print shop. Do not shrink it too much: the size calculator gives the smallest size that scans, and the QR code scanner checks what it opens before you print.
The recording changes, the print does not
Replace the recording or the title any time, and the printed card plays the new one. And you see how often it was scanned. The “Audio” kind comes with the Grow plan and those above it, and your file storage depends on your plan. Pricing
A link code made the first way is static and free when you download it without an account.
Questions about a song QR code
Can I make a QR code for a song for free?
Yes, if the song is on a platform or on YouTube: the link to QR code page is free and needs no account. Uploading a sound file comes with the Grow plan and those above it.
Which formats and file sizes are accepted?
An MP3 or M4A file, up to 10 MB.
Does the song start by itself when scanned?
No. The page opens, and the person who scanned it taps “Play”.
Does the person scanning need an app?
For a recording you uploaded, no: it plays in their phone's browser. A link code opens the song in its platform's app, or in the browser if they do not have the app.
Can I change the song after the card is printed?
Yes, for a code kept in an account: you replace the recording, and the printed card plays the new one.
