App download QR code

Every kind of code

How to make an app download QR code

  1. In your free account, choose “App download”.
  2. Paste your app's App Store link and its Google Play link. One of them is enough if your app is only in one store.
  3. If you like, add a link for other devices, such as the app's page on your website, which opens on a computer and other devices.
  4. Design the code in your colours and with your logo, then download it and print it.

What happens when it is scanned

An iPhone goes to the App Store, an Android phone to Google Play, and anything else to the third link. They land straight on the app's page and tap “Install”, without searching for its name or finding a lookalike.

Without a third link, other devices go to the App Store link, or to the Google Play link when it is the only one.

Where it is used

  • On the shop window or the restaurant table: “Get our app and order from it”.
  • On the receipt and the takeaway bag, so the customer comes back through the app.
  • In a printed advertisement or on a billboard.
  • On a screen at a trade fair or an event, or on a presentation slide.
  • On the box of a device controlled by an app, and in its manual.
  • On the business card of an app developer.
  • At the front desk of a clinic or a gym: “Book your next visit in the app”.

Why one code and not two

Two codes side by side leave the customer wondering which is for their phone. One code takes half the space and picks the store by itself, doing the work of an App Store QR code and a Google Play one. Copy each store's link from “Share” on the app's page. In one store today? Add the other when it is out, and the print stays as it is.

So that people actually install it

  • Write next to the code what it does, such as “Scan to get the app”, so nobody wonders what is behind it.
  • Put it where people wait: on the table, in the queue, at the till. There is time to install there.
  • Before printing, scan it with an iPhone and with an Android phone, and check that each one reaches the right store.
  • Print it large enough for the distance it is scanned from: the QR code size calculator gives the smallest width that scans.

If the app's link changes

Published a new app or added a store? Change the links, and the print stays as it is. And you see how often it was scanned. The free plan keeps 3 codes editable, for good. Static and editable codes

Questions about an app download QR code

Is one store's link enough?

Yes. It needs at least one of the two: an App Store link or a Google Play link.

What happens when a computer or another phone scans it?

The third link opens if you set one; otherwise the App Store link, or the Google Play link when it is the only one.

Is there a page before the store?

No. Anyone who scans it goes straight to the app's page in their device's store.

My app has a new link. Do I print the code again?

No. You change the link in your account, and the printed code opens the new one.

Is it free?

Yes, in a free account. The free plan keeps 3 codes editable, for good.
