Higher levels survive damage but make the code denser. A logo raises it to the highest level automatically.

Empty space around the code, in modules. Scanners need at least 4 for reliable reading.

Every kind of code

How it works

  1. Type the e-mail address where you want to receive messages. It is the only field you must fill in.
  2. Add a subject if you like, such as “Request a quote” or “Book an appointment”. It helps you sort the messages when they arrive.
  3. Add the message if you like: a line for the sender to start with, or questions to answer, such as “Name:” and “Order number:”.
  4. Design the code in your colours and with your logo, download it, and scan it with your phone before printing.

Where it is used

  • On a product or its warranty card: “Write to support”, with the product's name as the subject.
  • At a fair or an event: “Ask for the offer”, with the message already written, so you get the visitor's address and follow up after they leave.
  • On a job advertisement: “Send your CV”, with the job title as the subject.
  • At school or university: the teacher's address and the assignment's subject, already filled in.
  • On the suggestion box in an office or a shop.
  • On the office door after hours: “Write to us and we will answer in the morning”.

What people see when they scan it

Their mail app opens a ready e-mail as you wrote it. They change it or attach a file, then tap “Send” themselves.

The e-mail is sent from the account on their phone, so you get their address and can reply. For that they need a mail app set up on the phone.

Keep your inbox in order

  • Give each place its own subject: one branch's code with one subject, the next with another. Your inbox then tells you where each message came from.
  • A long message makes a static code denser and harder to scan. Keep it short, or keep the code in your account so it stays simple however long the text.
  • Ask in the message for what you need in order to answer, such as an order number or a product name, so you do not have to write back to ask.
  • The address is visible to anyone who scans. Use a work address, not your private one.
  • Print the address under the code as well, for people who do not scan or have no mail app on their phone.
  • After downloading, work out the size for the distance it will be scanned from.

If the address or the subject changes

The code from this page is static, free and needs no account, so if the address or text changes you print a new code.

Kept in your account, you change the address, subject or text without reprinting, and see how often it was scanned. The free plan keeps 3 codes editable, for good. Static and editable codes compared

Questions about an email QR code

Is the e-mail sent by itself?

No. It opens ready to send in the mail app, and the person who scanned it taps “Send” themselves.

Does it work with Gmail and Outlook?

It opens the phone's default mail app, whichever that is, and the e-mail reaches whatever address you entered.

Does the person who scans see my address?

Yes, in the “To” line. Use a work address.

Can I attach a file?

No. The code carries the address, subject and text only, and the sender attaches what they like. To hand people a file, use a PDF code.

Are the subject and message required?

No. The address alone is enough: it opens a blank e-mail to you.
